History Of Concord

Concord Components was founded in 1995 in Concord, Nebraska, by Robert and Michael Surber. Robert, with degrees in Electrical Engineering and Physics, brought expertise in electronics distribution, while Michael contributed his background in manufacturing and quality control. In 1998, the company purchased a local gymnasium and transformed it into office and warehouse space. Continued growth led to the acquisition of an additional building in 1999 to accommodate expanded office needs.

By 2001, Concord Components had expanded its inventory to 50,000 line items available for same-day shipping. In 2002, the company relocated to a 45,000-square-foot facility in Wayne, Nebraska, increasing its total operational space to 60,000 square feet. That same year, Concord acquired a quality control system capable of testing nearly all programmable integrated circuits and doubled its inventory to 100,000 line items for same-day shipping. The company also opened a New York-area office in 2002, focusing on government and OEM sales. By 2003, Concord Components had become the second-largest employer in Wayne, Nebraska. In 2004, the company further enhanced its quality control capabilities by acquiring a system to test nearly all discrete components. A significant milestone was achieved on May 16, 2005, when Concord obtained ISO 9001:2000 certification, underscoring its commitment to quality and operational excellence.

By 2005, Concord Components had expanded its inventory to 500,000 line items available for same-day shipping. That year, the company introduced several quality control advancements, including a counterfeit detection program called “Counter-Screen,” a proprietary decapsulation technique for rapid IC de-capping, and in-house tape and reeling services for integrated circuits. Additionally, XRF examination capabilities were implemented to screen for ROHS compliance. By 2007, the company celebrated shipping its 25,000th order. Concord also achieved the capability to test components at military temperatures ranging from -55°C to 155°C.
